Buy-to-let investment 'should be viewed in the long-term'

People who hope to be successful in the buy-to-let property market should view their investment in the long-term, the sales director of Incito Property Investments has said.

Speaking to Landlord Expert, the official website of the Landlord Association, Nick Hopkinson said that "time in" the market is more important than "timing" of entering the market.

"If you try to make money by guessing and trading when the peaks and troughs of the market are going to happen you are almost certain to be wrong," he said.

"But, if you do your research carefully, budget properly and take a long-term view you can make significant returns in certain areas of the UK with minimal risk."

He outlined the most important principles for achieving capital growth in long-term property investment - maximum gearing, future "hot spot" sourcing, compound capital growth and risk mitigation.

Using these guidelines means that "now is always a great time to invest", he said, adding that people who decide to buy property abroad without taking an objective view are likely to end up losing some money.

Incito Property Investment focuses on the off-plan property market.
